Michael G. Nearing, Esq.

Michael G. Nearing is a businessman and attorney with 30 years experience in business, business law and business litigation.  He took his law degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1979.  After graduation, he clerked at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Washington D.C., on licensing and rate cases for interstate gas, oil and hydro-electric energy systems.  Two years later, at Morgan, Lewis and Bockius in Philadelphia, he worked on hydro-electric and nuclear plant licensing, and on major Superfund, and Clean Air environmental litigation.  He joined a specialty litigation firm in Miami in 1984 and in 1990, Mr. Nearing founded his own firm focused on business and business litigation.

In the same year, Mr. Nearing partnered in an air charter company, Avior Technologies, serving major relief agencies and NGOs in Central Africa and the Middle East.  He served as General Counsel, and then as CEO of that company.  In 1996, Avior expanded operations into the United States, and with subsidiaries the Company provided air charter services and aircraft repair services throughout the United States and Europe.

Mr. Nearing continues with Avior Technologies, and since 2002, he also served, full time or part time General Counsel to one publicly traded, and five privately held commercial businesses.  For his current clients in aviation, construction, and commerce, Mr. Nearing provides a unique set of commercial and legal skills.  He is a business counselor who has actually been there.

Kyle P. Egger, Esq.

Kyle Egger grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia and Shenzen, China in the U.S. oil ex-patriate community.  He returned to the United States to finish his education, and selected South Florida as his new home.  He graduated cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law.  He joined the Nearing Firm during law school, adding his substantial experience as law clerk and litigation assistant to the Firm.  Upon graduation, he joined the Nearing Firm as a business and business litigation associate.

Mr. Egger's practice focuses on commercial litigation, corporate restructuring, corporate governance construction law, and condominium and homeowner association representation.

Heather Shatzel
Litigation Support Manager

Heather Shatzel is a graduate of the University of Miami in Engineering.  She started her career as an Architectural Engineer.  She designed various types of structures and oversaw project progress on construction sites.  After working in field for over five years, she decided to take on a new challenge in the field of Medical Device Sales.  During this time, her career passion for business and business development arose.  With this passion, she completed her MBA in March 2013 from Florida International University.

Ms. Shatzel joined Nearing & Egger in 2012.  She provides research, assessment and support in our business planning and litigation work, with emphasis on business development and construction litigation.

Courtney Willoughby, Esq.

Ms. Willoughby began as a Law Clerk at Nearing & Egger while she attended the University of Miami School of Law.  In law school, she was a member of the University of Miami's Charles C. Papy, Jr. Moot Court Executive Board and was selected as a National Member of The Order of Barristers in 2018.

She continues her practice at Nearing & Egger focusing on services in corporate law, construction law, condominium law, domesticating foreign judgment and writs of garnishment.  

Jesely Abaunza

Ms. Abaunza obtained her B.S. in Paralegal Studies from Kaplan University and a M.A. in Conflict Resolution from Nova Southeastern University.  As a paralegal at Nearing & Egger she works closely with clients and helps guide them through the legal process.  

Ms. Abaunza is a Notary Public, Certified Paralegal, and is fluent in Spanish, English, and basic Portuguese.
